This issue we hear from one of our loyal Junior volunteers. On Saturday’s Diamond has an amazing group of Junior volunteers aged 13-18, who are a core part of our volunteer team. They all really get stuck in with life at Diamond, helping participants, horses, ponies and other volunteers. Juniors work half or full day on a Saturday and get the opportunity to learn not just about horses and ponies, but also gain important life and work skills to help them develop (as well as making friends and having fun!). Many continue to become life long friends of Diamond, and go on to be staff members, trustees and adult volunteers.
Katie started at Diamond in April 2022 because she always wanted to work with horses and to share her passion for riding with others. She loves working with all the horses and ponies and getting to know all their personalities up close! Although she loves them all, Gucci is her special favourite.
She particularly enjoys working with lots of different riders and the wide variety of experiences she gets at Diamond, wearing lots of different hats (physically and metaphorically) – working on the yard, in lessons and on special projects all through the year. Katie also generously helps us with other events at Diamond, including Autumn Fairs, the Christmas open day and our recent showcase. Her advice for new vounteer’s is to ‘be confident, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes’.
Thank you Katie for everything you do for us at Diamond!
